The New Curriculum
A new draft NZ School Curriculum is currently under development.
The new document is a much simplified version that replaces the old 7 volume curriculum. The new document makes clear statements about the skills, knowledge and values that students will need to be successful members of our society in the 21st century.
The five key competencies are: managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing, thinking and using language, symbols and texts.
There is also a section that outlines values to be promoted in New Zealand schools.
The document is open for consultation until November. Parents and other interested people are invited to contribute to this process.
